I designed these to compliment a series of 1906 Edward Sheriff Curtis photographs being exhibited at 4 Winds Gallery in Pittsburgh. The design is loosely based on an original frame that was on one of the pictures. A small scrap of what seemed to be compo was drapped loosely between the corners of the frame before gilding. My version is done with stiffened silk bridging the corners before gilding.
http://frames.setlock.com/plogger/plog-content/thumbs/frame-gallery/fine-frames/rss/24-watercarriers.jpg Watercarriers - 1.14.2011 Sun, 16 Jan 2011 13:48:57 -0500 Horses - 1.14.2011 http://frames.setlock.com/plogger/?level=picture&id=23

Horses - 1.14.2011

This image is a contemporary Giclee printed on canvas. Much of Raskin\'s work features oddly intersecting planes, so I felt this multi-planed frame was a nice tribute. I was reading about the significance of the number phi (1.61803399) in physics and design. The various facets of this frame form a fibonacci sequence (each being 1.618 larger than the next). The frame is hand planed, spline-joined walnut with a gilded lip.
http://frames.setlock.com/plogger/plog-content/thumbs/frame-gallery/fine-frames/rss/18-raskin.jpg Saul Raskin self portrait - 1.14.2011 Sun, 16 Jan 2011 13:48:57 -0500 Orchid - 1.14.2011 http://frames.setlock.com/plogger/?level=picture&id=17

Orchid - 1.14.2011

This frame is polychromed basswood, designed to compliment this contemporary canvas.
http://frames.setlock.com/plogger/plog-content/thumbs/frame-gallery/fine-frames/rss/17-orchid3.jpg Orchid - 1.14.2011 Sun, 16 Jan 2011 13:48:57 -0500 Medallion - 1.14.2011 http://frames.setlock.com/plogger/?level=picture&id=16

Medallion - 1.14.2011

This was certainly the heaviest image I\'ve had to frame. It is a large, plaster bas-relief architectural medalion, salvaged from an old church.
